# European AI Buyout & Roll-up Index: Methodology

## Definition

The index lists platforms and investors in Europe that buy or build several companies and run them on a shared AI layer (AI-enabled roll-up, AI roll-up, AI-native private equity, KI Buy-and-Build). It describes; it does not rank, grade or value any entry.

## Inclusion criteria

- Headquarters in the EU, the EEA, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Non-European firms qualify only if their European entity itself acquires companies in Europe.
- A platform has completed at least one acquisition, or builds its own service firm on AI as a declared AI roll-up platform. An investor states a dedicated AI roll-up or AI buyout strategy.
- A public source describes AI as part of how the companies are operated, for example a shared AI platform or AI agents.

Excluded: software vendors without acquisitions, classic buy-and-build groups that mention AI only in passing, and entries backed only by databases such as Crunchbase, Dealroom or PitchBook.

## Models

- software-first: starts with software, then buys service firms to run on it.
- buyout-first: buys a profitable company, then brings in the AI layer.
- build: builds its own firm on AI and buys selectively.

## Status labels

Each row carries exactly one label:
- announced: stated by the company or investor itself.
- reported: reported by an established medium or trade title, such as Fortune, Sifted, Tech.eu, the FT or Handelsblatt.
- verified: two independent sources agree on the core facts.
- gtp: own statement of Generation Tech Partners.

## Source rules

Every row links one source with its date. Every figure comes from that source or, where the note says so, from a second source named in the note with URL and date. Nothing is estimated or taken from memory. Valuations, multiples, purchase prices and return targets are never recorded, even when a source states them. Amounts in other currencies are converted to euro at the ECB reference rate of 23 October 2026; the original amount is kept in capital_note. Every source URL was retrieved on the last_verified date; an unreachable source led to a lower status or removal.

## Update cycle

Quarterly, with a changelog per release.
